Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) member company MODERNISTIC was recently honored with their fifth consecutive SGIA Sustainability Recognition Award. MODERNISTIC continues to distinguish itself as a leader of sustainable business practices by being the only printer in the world to receive this distinction for five consecutive years

Each company was asked to outline the 2013 sustainability project they had undertaken. Modernistic Inc. has reduced their volume of wax in their screen making area by 46%. Measures were implemented to drop that number to 0% going forward by using their new Signtronic Stencil Master Screen making machine.

This process change reduces the environmental footprint by lowering risks to the environment. When making screens for printing, wax is reduced,  and therefore Modernistic’s environmental footprint is reduced. Utilizing our new Signtronic Stencil Master Screen making machine there is no longer a need for plotting an opaque wax mask in the process. Shipping heavy wax is eliminated and this non-toxic water soluble wax is no longer washed into the wastewater stream.

MODERNISTIC first received certification from the Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership in 2009, and is currently only one of a few screen and digital large format printers in the nation with this distinction. The SGP is the first and only national certification for printers that have implemented environmentally sustainable business practices.
